Description
This is the dragon staff I made for my most recent costume, the Wizard from Diablo 3.
The costume itself was meant to be mostly finished for the Blizzard costume contest at gamescom in germany.
A few days before gamescom I spontaneously decided to make the staff but since I hadn't any money left for the materials I originally wanted to use I simply used everything I had lying around: Wonderflex, Worbla's Finest Art, Worbla's Deco Art, craft fowm, Kobracast, hot glue, expanding foam, Window Color etc.
The whole thing, including draft, took me around 2 days and some parts look rather sloppy.
I'm not completely fine with the result but considering the time spent it's okay and it certainly fulfilled it's purpose ;D
The staff is made of styrodur I layered around a wooden staff and carved to have an irregular but round shape.
I hand-sanded the wood structur with sand paper, then covered everything with wood glue to make it smooth and a bit sturdier and painted it brown and finally shaded it with black and a light, reddish brown.
The head is made of expanding foam I sprayed on a styrodur base and then carved into a shape roughly resembling a head.
The horns are seperately carved and covered with Worbla's Finest Art. I covered the whole head with Wonderflex, Kobracast and Worbla's Finest Art Scraps to make it sturdier.
Teeth, lips and nose holes are sculpted with Worbla's Deco Art and all the other details on the head like scales are made of craft foam. The ornaments are made of Window Color.
Once again I covered everything with wood glue, primed it black and painted it with various metallic colors, mostly Citadel colors.
I definately have to give it a once over because some parts, escpecially the painting doesn't look good. The painting is a bit blotchy though you can only see it from close up.
Still: it's blotchy xD
